Fall Favorites

My friend Laura has a fashion blog (http://www.simplylulustyle.com) and was recently sharing her favorite color collections for fall.  That gave me my own inspiration – favorite plants for fall!  At a time when the rest of the garden is waning, some plants are just coming into their glory.
Tricyrtis ‘Sinonome’
Tricyrtis is one example.  It may not be deer resistant, but it’s worth the effort to spray with Liquid Fence because the flowers are so stunning.  They remind me of miniature orchids – I just love them. Another fall favorite is anemone.  These soldiers stand tall in part sun and hold their flowers high.  I have found these to be loved by the deer as well, but once again they are worth adding to your garden.

While I love hakone grass all year long, I particularly like it in the fall.  The seed heads are forming and the leaves are tinged with pink.  A spectacular plant for sure and one of the most graceful plants I have ever met!  It’s particularly beautiful when paired with a great fashion accessory – Arum Italicum.

Another standout for fall is Callicarpa dichotoma.  The berries are worth the wait!  I hope you enjoyed my fall fashion show.  Now I’m off to the garden – lots of work to do this time of year.  I just got some beautiful Tokyo Delight hydrangeas from Hydrangeas Plus in Oregon and I’m already anxious for them to bloom!  I’m sure they will be featured in my spring fashion collection!
